Hiya all.
It has been an very busy and exciting time over the last month. We now have a restaurant/bar in New Quay Wales!! It is called the Port of Call..... .https://www.facebook.com/portofcallNewquaywales?ref=aymt_homepage_panel This is our facebook page so you can keep up to date with all the exciting things that are happening in our beautiful corner of the world :) Just a little reminder that were are currently posting on the 'Europe in a motor-home page and not on the blog site...... pop over and have a look and check out the interactive map for a closer look at where we have been.x http://melandjared.weebly.com/europe-in-a-motorhome
It's been quite a while since our last post as our regular laptop has been, and still is I hasten to add, in repair. We have been back in the UK for a couple of weeks now and China seems like a lifetime ago. How soon we readjust! We have seen family and some (not all) friends and have had many hangovers with more to come still I'm sure. We would also like to announce our new addition Bessie. She is 26 years old, white and quite sizeable. It's our motorhome. We have spent about one week so far titivating and preening it and she is looking daper.
Back in the UK following an 18 hour very tedious journey. It's great to see family and friends again and get back to English food. Now it's shopping time for a motor home so we can start our next adventure-EU road trip.
Sometimes you have to 'Give back' to appreciate everything we have in life. I was invited by an amazing inspirational lady called Summer to go and help distribute hats gloves and scarves to a rural school. She does this twice a year fundraising for school supplies and renovations on the school. The journey is around 5 hours on the worst roads I have ever been on deep in the Guizhou country not a shop in sight for miles and miles. This place is so poor and it is freezing. Have a look at the pictures, it was a truly humbling experience....money isn't everything and if you don't have it you don't need it.
Well I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas celebrations and are now looking forward to welcoming 2015. We have had a great time in China yet again and the students have made sure we enjoyed our Christmas. They know how much we miss our families at this time of year so they make it special for us. We have had endless class parties and KTV bars. This week running up to the new year and of course Jared's birthday is equally as busy and manic! Tonight(Monday) is our only night at home with no plans.....shhhh don't tell anyone!
So starting from Saturday 27th, this was our Christmas day. We celebrated with friends and gave some of them the very first taste of true Western Christmas fayre, including Mince pies ,stuffing and gravy..thank goodness for Taobao! Later that night we had been invited to a KTV bar with my Grade 1 students.... really good fun and playing lots of games. Tuesday 30th we have dinner with a teacher from No2 school Liberty and her boyfriend Dragon and also Joshua. Wednesday 31st of course it's celebration time for the birthday boy and also class 8's party. Thursday 1st. Picnic in the mountains with class 19 and as there are 3 people with birthdays on the 31st it is KTV night again. Friday 2nd is Class 1's party and they are a mad bunch so i'm sure it will be crazy good fun! Saturday 3rd is Jared's birthday night out so lots of adult friends coming and teachers to celebrate and KTV AGAIN! PHEW! As you can see, it is hard work out here....oh forgot to mention.... only a 3 day week this week.... got Thursday and Friday off for New Year's Day (元旦 Yuan Dan) Addition.... No sooner had I posted this we had a knock at the door..... we have been invited to ANOTHER PARTY, so bang goes our only night in! Oh well, you only live once!! There has been a chemical gas leak in Tongzi, Guizhou province. Schools have been closed and students sent home as thick blanket of poisionous gas and smog crept over the city of Tongzi. Reports are sketchy but it is the same scenario as the gas leak in 2011. Citizens have been advised not to go outside and keep all doors and windows closed! It is believed to be a Co2 Hs2 mix of gasses that affects the repository system and is highly toxic. Reports are unconfirmed as to the source of the leak but it is believed to be either the coal plant or titanium factory witch are both around 5km away from the town of Tongzi but because of the high wind and smog the gasses have moved towards the town and enveloped it in a thick mist.
