Bought a campervan impulse buy on eBay. We have named it Klaus just because the camper decals are spelled with a K (Kamper) so it looks German, although we know it's French.
First trip out to Long Mynde with Mat, Kim and the kids and it was GREAT. Very pleased and had a great time. We are definitely going to enjoy exploring in this and I have a list of things I want to do to it to personalise it. |
finished Wild camping in the Peak District.
Headed off in the direction of Ashbourne, Buxton etc which has been a favourite of ours since living in Derbyshire and made our way to Snake Pass. Bikes everywhere, great and the sun is out. We stopped for a glass on vino and to watch the passing traffic for a while then set off again in search of somewhere to set up the night.
Turned off the pass route and towards Low Bradfield where we found an ideal spot to stay. Pulled up in a little gravel carpark next to a stream and across the stream the afternoon cricket was in full swing. What a perfect outcome. (Toilet block available and an outside tap, result) The only problem we had was that we had run out of gas. (I forgot to check this before leaving).
That night we only had a blanket (thought it would be warm enough without the duvet). It was either long enough but not wide enough or visa versa so not a great nights sleep.
Next day we went into Hillsborough to find Towsure but it turns out 7kg Calor gas is more rare than hens teeth. (Bloody Putin) We did buy a king size duvet though.
We headed to the 1948 crash site on top of snake pass again. This is the site where there is the wreckage of a U.S. bomber that crashed some years after the war finished however after walking 4KM we still didn't find anything. So we turned back for another 4KM hike back to the bus.
Great scenery and lots of far better equipped hikers all around us. Maybe another day...
Started heading back to Asbourne direction and stopped of in Hope for the bear festival. Live folk music and ale, we should have stayed longer. Later that evening Mel wasn't feeling to good so we came home to a warm bed and a plenty big enough duvet.
Its nice to go away but its nice to come home too.
